Collecting the Elements
In this lesson we are going to:
Get inspired
Make big lists, then cut them down to short lists
Choose a color palette, create a vision board, and pair fonts!
Exercise #1 - Creating a Visual Language
So pull out your notebook and writing tool. Gather your writings from the exercises in Module One. Spread them out around you and re-familiarize yourself with the feelings and wording from Module One.
Get comfortable, in a seated position on the floor or a chair.
This exercise is one part visualization and one part note-taking.
Exercise #2 - 'Color Palace', Vision Boards, and Font Pairings
This might feel like a big one, so I want to say a few things LOUDLY that you should keep in mind throughout this step:
HAVE FUN: this is actually one of my favorite parts of starting to design* a brand visually. It is all about play, trying things out, and it can all shift and change as we move along. Don't take it too seriously, don't get anxious, don't worry...
TAKE YOUR TIME: watching me move through this video is NO reflection of how quickly you should be able to do this. A) I have a lot, a lot of practice, and B) if I'm working on a project that I've never worked on before, I can spend hours and hours and days playing with it.
PAUSE AS NEEDED: notice if you feel yourself going too far down the rabbithole and getting into a funk. I like to surrender into the rabbithole of design, but also notice when I need to take care of my needs. So feed yourself, go on a walk, call a friend, whatever... the key is, step away, brush it off, jump up and down, do one of our grounding rituals again, dance around the room... you get the picture. Keep that creativity fresh, and it will serve you well.
